We are currently seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join our team for an exciting opportunity on a high-profile local project in Bridgwater, working with a well-respected client.
This role will be primarily based at our Bridgwater and Bristol locations.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Manage the daily commercial operations of the relevant contracts
- Support the Commercial Directors in negotiating future contracts
- Draft complex subcontract arrangements, including professional services agreements and appropriate terms of engagement
- Liaise with all parties to ensure clear understanding of contract terms, particularly financial aspects
- Lead weekly commercial team meetings, oversee contract administration, and assign tasks to commercial staff
- Coach and mentor commercial staff on best practices in contract management and day-to-day commercial activities
- Promote and develop commercial awareness within the team
- Ensure effective client relationship management is established and maintained
- Resolve issues related to contracts, subcontracts, and commercial operations
- Review, collate, and report on cost/value data provided by the QS team, and present findings to the Commercial Director
- Collaborate with all directors and operate as a key member of the wider team
- Contribute to the review and improvement of company commercial procedures, making recommendations as appropriate
- Identify and pursue business growth opportunities, including new initiatives and strategic partnerships
- Analyse sales and performance data to recommend actions that enhance business outcomes
- Assess commercial and contractual risks, providing informed recommendations based on thorough analysis
- Take on additional duties as required, including Quantity Surveyor tasks where necessary
- Maintain composure and deliver results effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines
Requirements:
- Proven experience in the commercial management of construction projects valued at over £5 million
- Degree-level qualification in a relevant field (preferred, but not essential)
- Strong negotiation skills
- Solid educational background
- In-depth contractual knowledge, with expert understanding of JCT and NEC contracts (knowledge of FIDIC is desirable)
- Experience using CEMAR software for administering both upstream and downstream contracts
- High level of commercial awareness
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Comprehensive understanding of construction processes
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Excellent numeracy skills
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
- Proficient IT skills, with good working knowledge of relevant software
- Detailed knowledge of current and historical building methods, construction technologies, materials, and related legal and business matters
- Experience in client liaison and relationship management
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to pass Drugs & Alcohol (D&A) testing and BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) vetting.
- Eligibility to live and work in the UK
