Top environmental award for TCi’s Marketing & Sustainability Manager at prestigious construction industry event

Environmental leadership recognised with one of just three individual awards on the night – amongst the biggest names in construction.

Benjamin Gibbs has been announced Sustainability Champion 2022 at the inaugural Leading Lights Awards in Manchester, held by the Considerate Constructors Scheme. The spectacular event was organised to celebrate the very best achievements throughout the UK construction industry, across the three key sections of the Code of Considerate Practice: Respect the Community, Care for the Environment, and Value the Workforce. Awards were presented to projects and organisations in size bands and 9 sites/companies were chosen as Overall Winners. One individual was recognised as a Champion in each of the main categories.

Benjamin said; “It’s a real honour to receive such a prominent accolade, surrounded by construction industry royalty. It might be an individual award, but it reflects the journey that TCi has been on through the trust and commitment as company to develop a strong sustainability strategy. Of course, none of this would have been possible if our clients hadn’t recognised the value brought to their projects by investing where it counts. This also reflects the tenacity of our supply chain partners, who have joined us along the way. I want to say a huge thank you to everyone for playing their part. The fact that so much encouraging activity can be seen in our industry is largely down to the amazing work of organisations such as the Considerate Constructors Scheme and with support and growing awareness from events like this, hopefully we can inspire more people to become leading lights in the industry.”

The award centres around TCi’s Sustainability Charter, which addresses 6 core areas for continuous improvement. A summary of the nomination on ccscheme.org.uk says; “With a passion for the environment Benjamin Gibbs from TCi has spearheaded a new Sustainability Charter to drive environmental responsibility and sustainability across the business and beyond.”

Some of TCi’s current sustainability progress can be found in the latest CSR statement. As both a construction contractor and a supplier to the industry, with a reputation for environmental initiatives, it means a huge amount to TCi as a growing SME to be performing amongst some of the giants of the sector.

Taking place at Manchester’s Science and Industry Museum, this year’s event marked a complete departure from the regular Considerate Constructors Scheme awards, at which TCi has enjoyed huge success, winning awards consecutively over the previous 6 years. Since 2016, the company has regularly achieve Gold, Silver or Bronze, but has also been recognised twice as the UK’s Most Considerate Supplier (2017 & 2021) by the scheme.

About the Considerate Constructors Scheme

The Considerate Constructors Scheme has been supporting and driving positive change in the construction industry for the past three decades. We believe the industry must be underpinned by high standards, external accountability and public trust for the benefit of all.

We have a Code of Considerate Practice which helps drive better conduct and higher standards across construction activities. The Code describes how construction teams which register their construction activity with us can operate more responsibly and respectfully. Using our practical and attainable guidelines, those running a construction site can make informed choices that help improve their standards and lessen their overall impact on the communities around them.

THE CODE FOCUSES ON THREE KEY AREAS:

  • Respecting the community
  • Caring for the environment
  • Valuing the workforce
